Dear
Neighbors,
It has
been over 12 years since I chose this neighborhood to be my home. I bought
during the time the neighborhood was still being developed. To attract buyers to
Creekbend Estates, the home builder trimmed and watered the entryways and
planted seasonal flowers. The developer moved on once the home sales were
completed, and the sprinkler system for the green way along Alma was ignored,
then ultimately water for it was shut off by the City of Plano.
By the
summer of 1998, the entryways were full of weeds, and some shrubs were dying
from lack of water during the hot summer. It became obvious that something
needed to be done. The catalyst that put neighbors into motion was a comment by
a realtor. He said that the poorly maintained entryways would make it harder to
attract buyers to a home he was trying to resell.
Right
away several of us pledged to roll up our sleeves, clean up the entryways,
repair the sprinklers, and create a committee which would ensure continuous
maintenance for the neighborhood entryways. Within a year our focus expanded to
include crime watch and civic involvement, and we formed the Creekbend Estates
Neighborhood Association. We appreciate the members who join CENA to help share
the commitment needed to maintain the peace and beauty of Creekbend.
We need
you
The
association needs a shot of the enthusiasm that brought 44 homeowners to CENA’s
first annual meeting at Harrington Library in 1999. Several members of the
board have served in one position or another since 1998. In recent years, we
have been forced to hold onto positions, double up responsibilities, or leave
positions vacant when no volunteers have stepped forward to fill board openings.
As a result, some of the activities CENA sponsored in the past have been
discontinued.
Starting
next January, board members will be stepping aside to make room for you to get
involved in your neighborhood. Please consider taking a leadership position on
next year’s board. Just contact a current board
member to discuss your interest and ask any questions you may have. And please
join me in saying “thank you” to those who have served CENA.
Your neighbor,
James McGoodwin
