Help Us Welcome New Neighbors!

If you know someone new to our neighborhood, please notify the Membership Committee. We'd like to give them a copy of Creekbend News, as well as a personal welcome to the neighborhood.

Save Money and Meet the Challenge

Pay as you throw…households that generate a smaller amount of trash may request a 68-gallon refuse cart and pay $2.60 a month less for trash service, an annual savings of $31.20.  Service with a 95-gallon cart is $13.85 per month, and service with a 68-gallon cart is $11.25 per month.

Many families use a smaller trash cart if they recycle more!  Fill up the recycle cart with acceptable items, including newspapers, magazines, junk mail, office paper, small card board boxes, #1 and #2 plastic bottles, glass jars and bottles, aluminum cans, metal cans, chipboard (found in cereal and cracker boxes) and telephone books.  Additionally, to encourage more recycling, the City of Plano will deliver a second recycle cart for no additional monthly charge.

Glenna Brown, Recycling Education Coordinator, announced that the City of Plano’s Sustainability and Environmental Services Department has issued a Recycling Challenge for 2007 to recycle 25,000 tons by September 30, 2007.  “Through the end of February, we are 18% below where we need to be in order to meet this goal,” Ms. Brown said.  “Neighborhood associations can have a positive impact on recycling by encouraging everyone in the association to recycle as much as they can for the good of the environment and to save money,” Ms. Brown said.

To see how much your neighborhood is recycling compared to other areas in the City, visit Live Green In Plano

Put all recyclables together in your recycle cart (green with black lid).  If you still have a divider in your recycle cart, make more room for more recyclables by calling Customer Service at 972-769-4150 for FREE divider removal.

Visibility Solution for Alley

After too many near-misses coming around the northeast corner on the alley behind her home on Millstream, Hope Nusbaum paid about $89 for a convex mirror to spot traffic coming both ways. The City provided free installation of the mirror and will maintain it. Hope reports that drivers are using the mirror and that traffic has been slowing to safer speeds since the mirror was installed.

A driver can never anticipate when a child might run out from behind a fence. If you are concerned about visibility on your alley, caused by fences or blind corners, investing in a convex mirror could make it safer.

Our main purpose in issuing this newsletter is to encourage neighbors to come forward and serve on the CENA Board starting in January. All positions are open. Many of you have supported CENA for years with your membership dues. Many have served on the board in the past or helped with their time and energy in the early years when we cleaned, trimmed, and planted the entryways ourselves. Next year we really need a little of your time. The commitment only involves 3 to 4 short meetings a year plus 5 to 10 hours on your area of responsibility.

Maybe  you and a friend in the neighborhood are willing to co-chair a position on the CENA Board. The two of you may have talked about what you’d like to see done—perhaps sponsoring more social activity, giving a boost to the know-your-neighbor policy of Crime Watch, establishing neighborhood emergency procedures, or welcoming new neighbors. (Some members of CENA have agreed to pay for welcome baskets with their own money, but we need coordination on the purchase and delivery.  Another member offered to buy meat for a neighborhood barbeque.)  Did you enjoy the Progressive Dinners we held a few years back?

You and a friend could run for a position, share responsibilities, and bring fresh ideas to the board.  If you are willing to serve, please let one of the board members know.  Contact Us
